A couple of months ago, we drove to our local Guitar Center, were Heather picked up a nice new Yamaha acoustic-electric guitar. Over the next few weeks, our home has been filled with the melodious sounds of Heather practicing fundamental chord changes, and even managed to get a few classic guitar riffs down. Yet in the back of her mind, Heather is in search of that perfect Fender Stratocaster, which like a sirens song, has been calling out to her. Only wish I had sufficient funds to go out and buy her what she clearly wants. Because you know… Once Heather becomes fixated on something, I’m never going to hear the end of it until she’s finally satisfied.

One afternoon while driving her normal route home from work, serendipity happened to turn Heather’s eye across to the storefront of a professional luthier. The shop goes by the name of Silesia Guitars, and is located not far away in Shoreline. So one day Heather stopped by, and not without some emotional difficulty, was able to relinquish her precious new Yamaha guitar. The folks at Silesia kindly installed upgraded strings, as well as made other fine detail setup changes that really tuned up everything nicely.

Yet another funny recent guitar story… A few days ago, Heather borrowed this crappy electric guitar from a friend at work, who basically ‘stole it’ from her own son who wasn’t actually playing it anymore. And I mean this was a CRAP electric guitar too, with a punk amplifier, wires and case were all of $100 total off Amazon! Naturally, Heather quickly became completely frustrated by the poor quality of that electric guitar, which also happened to need a new set of strings anyway. Having borrowed the guitar, I suggested that she simply put new strings on the thing, and tune it up, just for the practice of good old guitar maintenance, plus do this kid a favor in return.

However, before she left for the music store, I looked Heather sternly in the eye, and told her “Don’t you dare come home with a new electric guitar!” To which she then promised that of course not, she wouldn’t buy another electric guitar today. Well true to her word, she didn’t actually bring home a new guitar, but she did return home lugging a big new VOX electric guitar amplifier! It’s a solid amp with lots of nifty digital sound effects built right in, appears to be a gently used unit, and in fairly decent shape.

Oh well, at least Heather didn’t bring home another guitar! Guess it’s simply my fault for not being far more specific.
